150 Countries Travelled

For most of this incredible journey, Holtorf was accompanied by his wife, Christine. Christine passed away in 2010 before their world tour ended but before she passed, she instructed Gunther to complete their journey.

He did.

215 Countries and Territories Travelled

Otto was a third and equal member in their world tour. He completed the enitre trip without a single breakdown. He only had one crash throughout the journey in Madagaster, but came out completely undamaged.

Otto now rests in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart where he is a star attraction.

After two years of failed efforts to track down Gunther Holtrof, we began to lose hope that we would ever find this elusive man. From conversations with mechanics to journalists around the globe, it was only in December 2019 that we had our first successful lead.

A guide in China told Bridget that he had escorted Mr Holtorf through the country 30 years ago and may still have his contacts. We sent an email to Mr Holtorf to introduce ourselves and our Gunther. Two days later, Gunther Holtrof replied.

Over a period of three days we drove without stopping from Norway’s North Kapp, 5,674km south to Bavaria, Germany, we were finally able to introduce Gunther to Gunther!
